Whatever the flooring system, the correct procedures for preparing floor surfaces are critical. There are several recognised methods of both mechanical and chemical preparation processes. Conren's Technical and Site Survey Departments offer consultation on individual project requirements.
Extremely effective for large areas of concrete, the shotblast system is a dust-free preparation method which can be safely used in food and other hygiene sensitive environments.
A hand-held diamond planer with a dust extraction unit is used for smaller, less accessible areas.
WD Aquatect Water Suppressant has been developed by Conren to meet today's fast track requirements by improving surface adhesion and bonding of the flooring system to new concrete. It is applied to shotblasted concrete before installation of surface finishes. Depending on the concrete specification, this could be as early as seven days after the concrete has been placed.
Conren's Field Surveyors offer a moisture investigation service. For guidance notes on Moisture in Concrete available on request from the Technical Sales Department.
Oil and other contaminants can prevent the effective adhesion of coatings and screeds. Concrete should be treated with a combination of Hot Compressed Air (HCA) and a holding primer of WD Bonder.
Most epoxy and polyurethane systems can be applied to timber surfaces, metal structures and other substrates. It is advisable to check with Conren's Technical Sales Department for the recommended preparation requirements on individual projects.
